Bottega Veneta, Balenciaga and Saint Laurent become fur free: from 2022 they will no longer use animal furs

The holding company that owns numerous luxury fashion houses forever renounces the use of furs in all collections.

Don't store avocado like this: it's dangerous

Starting with the fall 2022 collections, none of the Kering group houses will use animal fur

From next year, no more animals will be used to create furs at Kering, the French holding company that owns brands such as Gucci, Bottega Veneta, Saint Laurent, Alexander McQueen. In recent years some of them had already independently chosen to give up the use of furs.

It was Gucci, in fact, the first brand to announce the abandonment of the use of furs in 2017, committing itself to sensitize the other brands, which have progressively followed the same path. Now, with the group's official stance, all brands will become fur-free next fall.

An almost obligatory decision, because new consumers are increasingly attentive to animal welfare and the sustainability of what they buy.

Furs, coats and bags with animal inserts have lost more and more charm and have gradually gone out of fashion. A few months ago, then, the images of the mass killing of mink infected with the coronavirus aroused indignation and protests among numerous consumers, who asked for a ban on the use of animal products in the fashion industry.

The time has come to take it one step further by eliminating the use of fur in all of our collections. The world has changed, along with our customers, and luxury must naturally adapt to this - explained François-Henri Pinault, president and CEO of Kering.

Kering's announcement could therefore represent the fatal blow for furs already in decline, because the few fashion brands that still use animal hair in their collections could be forced (and let's say finally!) to follow suit.
