Books on the tables outside #ognicasa. The initiative to ask to invest in culture and education

Books on the tables outside #ognicasa. The initiative to ask to invest in culture and education

Every Town Hall, every house, every open space in which to throw an eye. If it is true that culture and education are born from books, then it is equally true that those books must be disseminated as much as possible, to give us a chance to re-emerge and learn to have our say. And what do those spaces have to do with it? Nothing could be simpler and we will explain it to you.

It all started in Polla, just beyond Salerno, where Michele Gentile has been living and working for some time, the bookseller who a year ago launched "a suspended book" in exchange for plastic and aluminum and who, for this reason, jumped to the headlines in the often successful attempt to combine two things: to make people passionate about reading by recycling waste.

Now this initiative is also going beyond borders and has even been presented to the City of Paris, but in the meantime Michele does not stop there.

In this era in which bookstores are closing at the speed of light, he has decided that the seed of culture, of wisdom, of the book, must be thrown a little further and not so far from us: outside our things, our offices, outside from the rooms of our town halls.

This is how Michele launched hashtags with his Ex Libris Cafè #ognimunicipio e #everywhere to invite institutions to invest in culture and education.

“Bookstores represent the immune system of a country,” he says on the bookstore's Facebook page, firmly convinced that it is from a book that we must start over to heal from our ills.

What's it about? On a table with books to be placed in a place of passage as a symbol of a specific request: to urge those in duty to “invest in culture and education. NOW".

What is needed? "What you want, you just need a table, a chair, a stool with a few books, it's a protest-proposal that invests in culture, education and decides to save these places of dialogue: bookstores", he replies in a comment.

We invite institutions to invest in Culture and Education. NOW! A table with books, in front of #ognicasa #falloanchetu

“Mayors, if you care, as you say, for culture and education, set up a table full of books in front of your town halls”.

Mayors, if you care, as you say, about culture and education, set up a table full of books in front of yours ...

And not only them, Michele Gentile's appeal is addressed to everyone, starting even from the kids, that is, from those who represent our future, who must want to see beyond their own nose. The only powerful tool capable of changing our trajectories? A book!

My "table" in the government of this Republic. Libraries represent the immune system of a country. "Investing in culture and education. NOW". Put yours! #EveryHome
