A mobile library made with recycled materials, designed to facilitate reading and lending and exchanging books. The students of the della RTU International Architecture Summer School, in one of the busiest areas of the city of Cēsis, in Latvia, and it is called Story Tower.

Built in just two weeks this summer, the miniature library was made from locally sourced wood and is topped with a silver roof made from recycled Tetra Pak of fruit juice cartons.

Modeled like a giant wooden lamp and made entirely from donated and recycled materials, Story Tower has a 2250 tiles made by Tetra-Pak, suitably and expertly folded and assembled on the upper part of the structure. Eco-friendly and very light, this iridescent roof protects books and readers from rain and strong sun.

The semi-permanent structure will remain in this square until the main library reopens, within 18 months. But where are the books? Inside, up shelves integrated within the walls. They have been placed in the lower part, so that not only adults but also children can reach them easily.

In the short description of the project, the team explains the concept: “It is a place where books can be stored before taking a trip, exchanged after finishing a trip or simply borrowed while waiting for a bus”.
