Bogota ': how citizens improve road safety in the name of the common good

We realize this every day when we cross the streets of our cities, especially if we are on foot or by bicycle: the pedestrian crossings are most of the time in poor condition, not very evident, semi-erased and not always well marked. A factor that could be capable of causing even serious accidents. How to do then if those in charge do not take care of improving and taking care of the road signs on the asphalt?

A factor that may be able to provoke accidents even serious. How to do then if those in charge do not take care of improving and taking care of the road signs on the asphalt?

A great example of collective commitment by a group of citizens for the good of the whole community comes directly from Colombia and precisely from its capital, Bogota, which currently has approx 7 million inhabitants and which stands out for being located at an altitude of 2640 meters above sea level, on a plateau located in an area called Savana di Bogotà.

Faced with the obvious fact that the authorities in charge had not been dealing with improve road signs, a group of willing people decided to roll up their sleeves to repaint as it should be, and even better, thanks to the use of bright and clearly visible colors, the pedestrian crossings of the city, providing the world with a concrete example of solidarity and collaboration in order to benefit an entire and populous community of citizens.

The renovation of the pedestrian crossing was carried out by the Combo 2600 collective, which takes its name from the elevated position of the city. The group has decided to take action in the name of the common good repainting or redesigning pedestrian crossings from scratch in various points of the city, in order to facilitate the circulation of pedestrians, protecting them from the traffic of cars and other means of transport.

In carrying out their task, the members of the collective have succeeded in their intent to attract attention both citizens and institutions that should have taken care of improving the conditions of the roads of the Colombian capital. When they were asked why they decided to put such a concrete project into practice, their response brought to the field the need to work together for a common goal, the need for making roads safer for pedestrians and the desire to demonstrate how great revolutions can be born from a small gesture.
