For over sixty years it has been carrying the nature identity in homes around the world thanks to his extraordinary documentaries designed for the small screen. The last one is Blu Planet II, presented in London a few days ago.

Sir David Attenborough has been a river in flood since 1984, since his name is linked to that of the BBC, now the new series is dedicated to the life of the animals of the oceans.

The seven episodes that make up the series are the fruit of 125 journeys made in four years narrated by the voice of Sir David Attenborough with an exceptional musical accompaniment, that of Hans Zimmer and Radiohead.

In his documentaries, the author talks about the wonders of nature, but also about the endemic evils of our society such as pollution of the oceans due to plastic and climate change.

“Plastic is a very serious problem. I shot a scene in which the baby albatross is about to be fed, and from the beak of the adult fish or squid come out, their natural food, but plastic. It breaks your heart, ”Attenborough told Greenpeace.

But not only that, some videos show trapped animals from plastic waste throughout the Scottish coast, on the beach bottles, bags and packaging of all kinds. All stories that we too have been documenting for some time, telling of coasts transformed into plastic island or turtles and fish that die with plastic in their stomachs.

We talked about the pollution of our seas here:

    • POLLUTION OCEANS: IN 2050 THERE WILL BE MORE PLASTIC THAN FISH
    • SWIMMING IN PLASTIC OCEANS (PHOTO)
    • THE TERRIBLE IMAGES OF PLASTIC BALLOONS THAT ARE KILLING ANIMALS (AND POLLUTING THE OCEANS)
    • THE DISCONCERTING IMAGES OF PLASTIC WASTE IN THE SEA

Blu Planet II should be yet another alarm bell to stir the consciences of institutions and citizens, so that the waste that suffocates the sea can be remedied.

But the naturalist also noted some positive changes.

“My hope is that the world is realizing what is happening. I see people much more interested in climate change and global problems. Thirty years ago, no one worried about pollution and those who did it were a kind of cathedral in the desert, ”she explains.

According to Attenborough, when it comes to climate changes you have to use a historical perspective.

“Some of the changes we are seeing are more productive, others less so. I was just looking at a scene where killer whales and humpback whales hunt for herring off the Norwegian coast. Twenty years ago, killer whales didn't swim in those waters. Because? I can't give one certain answer, but it denotes a change. Part of which is undoubtedly due to global warming, ”he continues.

    The way to go?

“The only solution is to make global agreements. And to do this, you need to work with or through politicians in principle. In a democratic society it is up to us to do everything possible to persuade politicians to intervene. It is why Paris has been such an optimistic and happy occasion. Thinking back now, in truth, we have been of the deluded. Yet that meeting gave us an edge ".
