Blocked the auction of a two-month old dog put up for sale as a television, after being mistreated

A 2 and a half month old puppy had been auctioned, fortunately the prosecutor ordered the cancellation

It had been auctioned for 100 euros with a raise of 50, like a television or a car, but it was a pity that it was a puppy of just two and a half months, luckily the prosecutor ordered the cancellation.

“Animals are not objects. You entrust him to us and we will guarantee him a responsible adoption in a family ”.

To report the situation was the Lav Trentino which became aware of the puppy put up for auction, immediately wrote to the Prosecutor to ask for the cancellation.

The dog, just two and a half months old and in need of treatment, seen some health problems in one eye, had been cataloged as if it were a piece of furniture. The wording was 'body of the crime' in the telematic judicial auction managed by the Judicial Sales Institute ((Ivg) of Trento. 100. "Body of crime" because the puppy had been mistreated.

"This is an absolutely unacceptable provision on an ethical level as it does not take into account the well-being of the animal, already unfortunate, and its right to a second chance for a happy life in a new family", said Simone Stefani in charge of Trento office and LAV Vice President.

The sale of animals at auction is an obsolete procedure that even risks putting the animals back in the hands of the abusers themselves, or their acquaintances.

For this, the association wrote to the Prosecutor asking for the cancellation of the auction and the custody of the dog, so as to guarantee him a family in which he can really find love and tranquility. The Public Prosecutor accepted the request and ordered it to be entrusted on the grounds that it was necessary: "to avoid the danger that the dog could fall into the hands of people who do not have his well-being at heart".

“From today we will therefore begin to take care of the little dog and to get to work to identify for him a suitable family to welcome him into his home and into his life. This is a story with a happy ending, but unfortunately in our legal system, animals are still considered things ”, comments Lav.

Although in the sphere of civil law, animals living in the family are impenetrable and therefore it is not possible to put them up for auction, so it is not in the criminal sphere whose Code of Procedure still provides this institution which does not take into account their nature as sentient beings. who feel emotions. For this, an urgent modification of the Code itself is necessary.
