There are wonderful places in the world, made even more magical by the tides or luminescent caves and these images fully capture that atmosphere created by some microscopic organisms.
We have talked to you several times about this phenomenon that can occur both in damp woods thanks to mushrooms, and in the sea thanks to algae, firefly squid and the luminous beetle. Bioluminescence allows some organisms to emit light through chemical reactions.
In this case, those responsible for this breathtaking spectacle that illuminates the Waitomo Glowworm caves which date back to about 30 million years ago are the larvae of Arachnocampa bright, a diptero that weaves a sort of web.
The Waitomo Caves on the North Island, and Te Ana-au, on the South Island, are the country's best-known habitats for this insect, currently threatened by excessive influx of tourists, intensive agriculture and logging.
