Biodynamic light in the delivery room: what it is and why it has beneficial effects on mother and baby

The beneficial effects of biodynamic light and chromotherapy can also be used in the delivery room to make the birth more "sweet"

Don't store avocado like this: it's dangerous

Have you ever thought about giving birth using the calming and beneficial power of light? A technique used in some hospitals and clinics involves making use of biodynamic light in the delivery room with beneficial effects on mother and baby.

The moment of childbirth is very delicate and every woman has the right to choose the best for herself and her baby. There are many philosophies and "tricks" that can be used to make birth a moment as "sweet" as possible.

The beneficial effects of chromotherapy are now known, but it is almost a novelty that in some structures they have begun to apply the technique that uses lights and colors even in delivery rooms to promote labor and a more peaceful birth. We recently discovered it thanks to Chiara Ferragni, whose photo of her daughter Vittoria Lucia in the delivery room with the characteristic purple light made the rounds of social media.

This is the biodynamic light technique, which one study found to be capable of improving sleep patterns in people with dementia, but which in this case is applied at the time of delivery. However, there is very little information on this opportunity on the web.

Benefits of soft lighting in the delivery room, the study

But while little is known about the chromotherapy used during Ferragni's birth, the advantages of soft lighting are documented instead. A study conducted in Sao Paulo in Brazil evaluated the effects of low light, finding that it can facilitate childbirth and increase the attention to the moment experienced by the parturient and her baby, providing autonomy to the woman and humanized care by the team.

In practice, even the light can be of great help in the perspective of a sweet birth. Thanks to special lamps, it is possible to create different atmospheres, according to the needs of the pregnant woman, both as regards the intensity of the light and its "heat".

The power of purple

With the help of biodynamic light, the environment and the atmosphere of the delivery room improve and in fact the potential of chromotherapy is exploited to relax pregnant women. With colored lights, for example purple, beneficial effects are obtained on the emotions not only of the new mother but also of the midwives and medical staff who accompany her in the different stages of childbirth.

In chromotherapy, purple is used to calm the nervous system and relax the muscles, a color that also favors meditation.

The woman in childbirth will thus be more ready to face labor and the birth will take place in a less traumatic way, which obviously will also benefit the newborn.

For now, it is a possibility limited to a few birthing facilities, but we hope it will spread more so that more women can choose to take advantage of this opportunity.
