I greenhouse gases, particularly harmful to the health of the planet, have a chance to become useful and green. They could in fact be transformed into a new one biodegradable plastic. It seems incredible but the infamous pollutants that populate our atmosphere, contributing to increasing global warming and generating climate change, could have a noble soul, if properly treated. The idea is from Newlight Technologies.

The American company has in fact devised a system that transforms the air and greenhouse gases into completely biodegradable plastic materials through the action of some specially trained bacteria. These microbes are able to recombine the oxygen and carbon molecules of the exhaust gases, but also the very common air, made of plastic that can be used for bottles, dashboards and many other products.

The new plastic created from greenhouse gases is called AirflexTM and is created by extracting carbon and oxygen from air and polluting gases, including methane and carbon dioxide from sources such as sewage treatment plants, landfills and power generation plants. This means that without oil, without food crops, and without GMOs, a 100% sustainable material is created.

And above all biodegradable. The AirflexTM is in fact is a type of naturally biodegradable polyester, and further recyclable. In fact, it can only give life to recyclable products.

To date, not all plastics are the same. Most of them are the bane of the environment, as their disposal often releases toxins. But not only. Resisting the elements for a long time, they often end up in the belly of marine animals, leading them to death.

A bio plastic, on the other hand, would be easily reused once it finished doing its job.

But that's not the only solution. Using special bacteria and a plastic-eating mushroom discovered in the Amazon man is slowly starting to get rid of this dangerous material. And in an economic way.
