The world is looking for alternatives to plastic plates, glasses and straws. It is now understood that we must begin to do without this highly polluting material, moving towards more eco-sustainable alternatives. We had already told you about the 100% biodegradable tableware obtained from palm leaves. Now the same result has also been obtained starting with banana leaves.
The idea came to a group of young Peruvians who, thanks to a loan obtained through the Bio Challenge (a competition aimed at supporting the development of innovative solutions focused on the sustainable use of Peruvian biodiversity resources), managed to design specialized machines for the production of biodegradable dishes. The new equipment is capable of producing 50.000 units per month.
But what's more, Josué Soto, the head of the project, explained that they are working directly with small producers in the Peruvian Amazon, who are offered a fair price and technical training to exploit the waste from banana cultivation, useful precisely to make these innovative dishes, resistant to various temperatures, to liquids but which offer the advantage of decomposing within 2 months.
The rectangular plates measure 22cm x 16cm x 3cm high and do not contain styrene, a petroleum derivative found in other types of containers and tableware.
The Bio Plant line of dishes has already been used in some traditional Peruvian celebrations but the creators expect to soon enter the market of organic restaurants and ecological wineries with their products.
