101 moon bears stolen from their painful fate in a 'bile farm' finally savor the taste of freedom thanks to an association of volunteers who saved them. Now there is a need for funds for medical examinations and treatment.

A splendid story with a happy ending comes from China, where the largest bear rescue in history took place: 101 specimens belonging to the black bear species (also known as the moon bear or Tibetan bear) were rescued by an ex bile farm in Nannin (China). Remember that bear bile is extracted as the main ingredient of many traditional Chinese medicine remedies.

THETibetan bear was declared a protected and endangered species in the late 70s and this led to the birth of torture sites known as le 'bile farms': in fact, if at first the bile was extracted from the killed animals, now the bears are raised and subjected to daily samples, through metal catheters inserted into the gallbladder without anesthesia and in poor hygienic conditions (this causes infections and tumors in the animals) . In addition, animals are undernourished, so that their bodies produce more bile, and suffer sores and deformations due to the cramped size of the cages in which they are held prisoner.

Since 1998 the association Animal Asia has begun to take care of the health and protection of bears, making a concrete commitment to ensure that the 'bile farms' are closed forever. The association told in a documentary, Moon Bear Homecoming, all the actions taken by Chinese volunteers to save the 101 animals from a cruel fate: after many years of abuse, the bears have been transferred to the protected reserve. Volunteers will now have to attend to urgent surgeries, diagnostics, heart ultrasounds, x-rays, and provide vital medicines. The costs of this massive operation were huge, which is why the documentary is also an invitation to make donations to the association.

The story is told by the American actor and activist James cromwell, which explains the various phases of the rescue of the animals and their incredible journey which lasted 1250 kilometers aboard nine trucks:

When asked if I wanted to tell the epic journey of 101 Asian black bears moving across China from a former bile farm to an award-winning sanctuary, I jumped at the chance - he testified. Cromwell. - Many suffer from chronic diseases: they needed constant care and the team was with them every mile of the journey. I hope everyone watches this amazing movie and joins me in helping to share their story as far and wide as possible.
