Reduce levels by LDL cholesterol in the blood, how to do? It is known that a diet rich in fiber from plant foods helps lower "bad" cholesterol. Broccoli is among the healthiest foods in this regard. And now super broccoli comes to our aid.

A super broccoli even more effective in lowering cholesterol levels? Is called Benefort is and is the result of the work of the researchers of theInstitute of Food Research in the UK. It's about a new variety of broccoli which would be able to reduce the level of LDL cholesterol in the blood by 6%.

Lo study in question was published in the scientific journal Molecular Nutrition and Food Research con il titolo di “Diet rich in high glucoraphanin broccoli reduces plasma LDL cholesterol: Evidence from randomised controlled trials”. Il superbroccolo it was grown in Great Britain in a conventional way, GMO-free.

The secret is given by its high content of glucoraphanin, a substance rich in beneficial properties. The amount of glucoraphanin present in super broccoli would be up to two to three times higher than in common varieties of broccoli. Reducing high LDL cholesterol levels is helpful in protecting yourself from coronary heart disease.

To test the benefits of super broccoli on human health, British researchers recruited 130 volunteers who asked to consume 400 grams of super broccoli per week, within their usual diet. A quantity that is not excessive, therefore, easy to include in your normal diet.

The results of the study speak for themselves: after 12 weeks participants' blood LDL cholesterol levels fell by about 6% on average. All thanks to glucoraphanin, a molecule found mainly in vegetables such as broccoli and cauliflower.

Glucoraphanine has an effect in reducing blood cholesterol levels and, together with sulforaphane (another substance present mainly in broccoli and cauliflower) performs anticancer and anti-inflammatory functions. This substance also helps to better regulate cellular metabolism. Here then one more reason to enrich our diet with broccoli. In fact, even common broccoli contains glucoraphanin and sulforaphane.
