Dying of bees in Friuli and the troubles for four hundred farmers investigated for environmental pollution. For the Public Prosecutor of Udine, the poor bees were exterminated by a highly toxic pesticide.

The Public Prosecutor of Udine on the side of the bees, insects essential for the survival of our planet. The investigating judge established that the sudden depopulation of the hives was the direct consequence of the use of a toxic pesticide. During the investigations, it was discovered that, during the corn sowing period, out of 11 hives, the bees from over 60 thousand per hive increased to just 10-20 thousand.

Blame? Of the Mesurol 500 FS, a substance legally produced by Bayer, but very toxic and precisely requires compliance with strict warnings which in fact have not been respected. Warnings that according to the prosecutor would not have been taken, thus causing the death of pollinating insects.

For this I am 400 Friulian farmers investigated and 250 agricultural properties were seized, many of which receive public funding and European contributions.

The investigation had started after a sudden death of bees near the corn fields. The pm Viviana Del Tedesco he wanted to take a closer look at it, looking for evidence that it was environmental pollution. The analyzes of the Zooprophylactic Institute of the Venezie left no doubts: the honey had the presence of the pesticide Mesurol 500 FS, composed of the active ingredient Methiocarb and as we said, it is legal but must not be used when bees are in business.

This pesticide, like the others, is dispersed in the air. Thus unfortunately it reached 11 beehives in the agricultural areas of Moruzzo, Plasencis di Fagagna, Faugnacco di Martignacco, Nogaredo di Prato, San Odorico di Flaibano, San Marco di Basiliano, Lavia Ferrovia di Basiliano, Villanova di San Daniele del Friuli.

Bees died from Mesurol, but also from pyrethrum insecticides such as Fluvalinate and Tefluthrin, which are highly toxic to insects in general.
