#bearhunt: Why are teddy bears popping up in the windows of children all over the world

Taking a cue from Rosen's illustrated book, Hunting for the bear, a teddy bear hunt has begun. All the children put one in the window.

Don't store avocado like this: it's dangerous

The only bear hunt we like is going on all over the world. From the States to the United Kingdom via New Zealand, teddy bears are popping up from all the windows. This is an initiative inspired by Michael Rosen's magnificent illustrated book, We're Going on a Bear Hunt. Unfortunately, at this moment, the English author is hospitalized in intensive care for coronavirus. The hashtag #bearhunt is also a tribute to him to make him feel better.

But not only. A bit like Christmas elves, bear hunting is a new way to be close to children in this complicated historical moment. In fact, in these countries a real teddy bear hunt has begun: all the children put one in the window to be somehow less distant from each other and banish boredom.

Just like our rainbows banners, teddy bears appear behind all windows in an effort to entertain isolated children in this time void of coronaviruses and restrictions. Even children can feel the weight of this quarantine, assimilate its darker aspects and need reassurance.

And so teddy bears are appearing on the windowsills of houses and buildings from Bluff to Auckland, from Reykjavík to Chicago, starting with that of New Zealand premier Jacinda Ardern. She too has placed a teddy bear in the window of the Premier House in Wellington, where she is with her boyfriend and their little girl Snow.

Gradually they appeared almost everywhere, especially in Anglo-Saxon countries, and now those beautiful teddy bears of all shapes and sizes on windows and balconies and shared on social networks represent another simple gesture that, precisely because it is widespread and shared, will soon be transformed. in a new wave of trust and hope.

And this, now, we badly need.

Like other cities around the world, Reykjavík residents have dealt with social distancing by putting #teddybears in their windows to cheer up their young ones. We're Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen

The choice of the teddy bear is no coincidence, but we were inspired by a beautiful illustrated book, Hunting for the bear by Michael Rosen, which, through a thousand ups and downs, teaches how to banish fear.

A family sets out in search of a bear but, after crossing a field of rustling grass, a cold and deep river, a mud pit, a dark and dense forest and a whistling snowstorm, the bear will find the place. little family. It is a small masterpiece of children's literature, where images, text and shared reading will give a great lesson: how to face every fear together.

Michael is still poorly but continuing to improve. He has been able to eat today & will be getting a more comfortable oxygen mask soon. All good signs. He does know you've all been rooting for him with this lovely wave of support. Thanks again, Emma x @Underthecranes @J0e_R0sen
