Banksy's famous balloon girl lets a Coronavirus-shaped balloon fly away. This is the significant mural that appeared on a wall in the Municipality of San Bassano, in the province of Cremona.
The work, reminiscent of Banksy's famous mural “A girl with balloon”, was shared on the Municipality's Facebook page, and is located on an old wall at the intersection of via De Petri and via Locatelli. Instead of the red balloon, however, there is a green one in the shape of Covid - 19. The graffiti has been interpreted by the administration as a sign of good wishes.
It was created by an anonymous writer who left his work one of these nights.
"An auspicious sign, on the old wall, concerning the tragedy we are experiencing of COVID-19. It represents a little girl who lets fly a balloon that has the shape of the famous virus, but instead of being red, it is green. If we had to give a title to this mural we could call it “HOPE”; green as the hope that this bad moment that we are all experiencing will fly away, like the balloon. But ironically, on the same wall, which in the past limited one of the sharp curves of Via Campo, faded by time and almost illegible, we can glimpse one of the slogans with which the fascist dictatorship propagated its ideals. And while all the writing has almost disappeared (the writing read "if the victory was mutilated once, it does not necessarily mean that it can be mutilated again") the name of the dictator to whom the sentence is due remains legible on the bottom, yes reads on Facebook.
