'Discover a new destination this year'. This is Banksy's sarcastic invitation to visit Gaza. Right from the center of the conflict between Israel and Palestine the street artist has made a video of denunciation that immortalizes some of his works surrounded by devastation wrought by Israeli militias and bombing.
The images and works that come from the war-hit territory are devastating and hit straight to the heart. Starting with the mural he portrays children on swings tied to a military checkpoint. Then there is a big sad kitten with its paw in the air. In the video, a local man says:
“This cat tells the whole world that it lacks joy in its life. The cat has found something to play with. And our children? ".
Between the destroyed buildings and the bleak reality, Banksy paints a piece entitled "Bomb damage", which depicts the Greek goddess Niobe crying and curled up. It is a tribute to the theme of the massacre of Niobe's children and the pain of her mother, one of the most elaborate of classical times.
If the video begins with Banksy seeming to enter Gaza through a series of underground tunnels, before immortalizing children playing among piles of rubble in an area that has been devastated by war, it ends, closing this circle, with graffiti written on the side. of a building which reads:
"If we wash our hands of the conflict between the powerful and the weak, we side with the mighty - we do not remain neutral ”.
