Banksy makes Cupid “explode”: the street artist's anthem on Valentine's Day

A Banksy mural has appeared on the facade of a building in Bristol. The work depicts a little girl and Cupid's broken heart for Valentine's Day

On Valentine's Day, Banksy gives a suggestive mural to his Bristol. During the night, in a building in the Barton Hill area, an image appeared of a little girl who hits flowers with a sling and causes a real red explosion. The artist, whose identity remains unknown, claimed the work on Instagram, but did not explain its meaning.

For this already the hypotheses run on the net: Could that little girl be Cupid throwing a stone instead of an arrow at flowers? Or did the little girl with that sling just hit Cupid symbolized by red plastic leaves and flowers, breaking his heart? The new graffiti is very similar to the iconic “Ballon Girl”.

One thing is certain, the work is a homage to lovers and the fact that he made it a stone's throw from his home, for many would represent Bansky's return to his hometown. As we said, the mural appeared yesterday evening 13 February and the image has already gone viral.

We are not new to his extraordinary masterpieces because Banksy is not just an artist, he is so much more. In his works he paints reality through metaphors, irreverent images that highlight all the contradictions of our time. With the cans he sends messages condemning capitalism, violence and the use of weapons, against a materialistic society that poisons itself with junk food and destroys its own planet.
