Over 100 original works in Banksy's first exhibition in Sicily, whose identity remains unknown will be the protagonist in Palermo
Over 100 original works in the first exhibition in Sicily by Banksy, the Bristol artist, whose identity remains unknown will, in fact, be the protagonist in Palermo in two different exhibition venues, the Loggiato San Bartolomeo and Palazzo Trinacria.
It can be visited from 7 October to 17 January 2021 “Portrait of an unknown person. The artist called Banksy ", an unprecedented path of art. Curated by Gianluca Marziani, Stefano Antonelli and Acoris Andipa, commissioned by the Sant'Elia Foundation in collaboration with the Pietro Barbaro Foundation, produced and organized by MetaMorfosi Cultural Association, with the patronage of the Municipality of Palermo and the Metropolitan City, in collaboration with MLC Comunicazione , the exhibition combines over 100 original pieces.
Freehand paintings from the very early period, serigraphs that Banksy considers serial crafts to spread his messages, installation objects and others from Dismaland (such as the Mickey Snake sculpture with Mickey Mouse swallowed by a python) and several numbered pieces, both artisanal and industrial, many certificates and others attributed, which tell an artist without linguistic and experimental boundaries.
The curators have collected the suggestion of the oil on panel "Portrait of an unknown", a true icon of Antonello da Messina and of Sicilian artistic production, transforming it into the ideal inspiration for the themes of an artist that no one has ever seen, of which none he knows the face, of which no photos are circulating, yet capable of conquering the world through works of great ethical, evocative and thematic power. Originally from Bristol, born around 1974, framed within the generic confines of Street Art, Banksy represents the most exemplary case of popularity for a living artist since Andy Warhol's time. To date we can consider him the greatest global artist of the new millennium.
For the occasion, an important catalog will be published in which all the works of the exhibition will be collected. The volume will be accompanied by critical essays by Gianluca Marziani, Stefano Antonelli and Acoris Andipa.
