Baby shampoo: still too many allergens and Pegs in some brands. Among the worst Chicco and Euphidra

The comparison between 8 baby shampoos still shows the presence in some products of substances of dubious safety such as Peg, phenoxyethanol and allergens

He is about to end up run over, his mother saves him

For children, there are various cleaning products on the market specifically formulated for their needs. These include shampoos that must be effective but delicate and, above all, not contain dubious ingredients. But is it really so? A new test reveals that there are more or less "clean" products.

The magazine Il Salvagente has put in comparison 8 baby shampoos to find out if there were any unwanted ingredients inside.

Cosmetic products for children: here are the most dangerous ingredients to avoid (LIST)

This is in all cases of products defined as sweet, delicate and "anti-tears", specifically, the Inci of:

  • BABYGELLA - DELICATE SHAMPOO
  • CHICCO SHAMPOO WITHOUT TEARS
  • COOP CRESCENDO BABY SHAMPOO NO DELICATE TEARS
  • EUPHIDRA AMIDOMIO BABY SHAMPOO WITH RICE OIL
  • I PROVENZALI ORGANIC SHAMPOO
  • JOHNSON’S BABY SHAMPOO
  • NATURAVERDE BIO DISNEY BABY ULTRA DELICATE SHAMPOO
  • MUSTELA SWEET SHAMPOO

The results

Il Salvagente immediately noticed the great diffusion of Peg which, unfortunately, are still used in most of the products (we find them for example with the abbreviations Peg-150 or Peg-200). It is thanks to these substances that the "anti-tear" effect is guaranteed but their thickening power is also exploited.

Derived from petroleum, behind the Pegs could also hide the molecule of dioxane which, the chemist Fabrizio Zago explains to the magazine, is a potentially dangerous substance that can be generated in the production process of derivatives from ethylene oxide (in the Inci indicated with the initials Peg and the relative number or with nomenclatures ending in " eth "). It is not yet clear whether it is a carcinogen but, without a doubt, it is irritating.

The phenoxyethanol. This is the Chicco brand shampoo.

These baby products still contain phenoxyethanol. Even Lidl wipes and nivea creams

Also found many allergens (the worst product in this sense was Euphydra Amido Mio), mainly used as perfumes. Rightly, Il Salvagente asks: do children really need perfumed products for their personal hygiene? The answer of course is no: they could very well do without it!

Among the allergens there is also the Benzyl Alcohol however used as a bactericide.

Other unwelcome substances found in baby shampoos are bHT, that is the butylhydroxytoluene which is suspected to be an endocrine disruptor, the Polyquaternium-7 and the Edta, dangerous from the environmental point of life.

Considering the Inci, the worst product it turned out the Chicco shampoo without tears with a totally insufficient score, followed by Euphidra my starch with rice oil (with a score of 5.8) and Johnson's which, however, tears enough.

Il migliore it turned out instead the product Coop is being developed.
