Avon announced that will no longer perform animal testing on raw materials and finished cosmetics in each country in which it operates.

According to the company, experimentation is not necessary to guarantee the safety of its products, therefore it has communicated that it has ceased any type of animal tests on its cosmetics, including the experiments required by the regulations of some countries, including China.

The well-known cosmetics company was one of the first to stop animal testing 30 years ago. Since then, Avon said, the company has supported the development of alternative tests, collaborating with organizations such as the Institute for In Vitro Sciences, FRAME and Humane Society International to test the safety of their products and promote the approval of alternative trials by authorities around the world.

Following the announcement, the company was included in the list drawn up by PETA, which includes all cosmetic industries that do not carry out animal testing.

Things keep getting BETTER! After working with PETA for nearly 2 years, Avon Products Inc. has officially been added to PETA’s “Working for Regulatory Change” list.

La China represents a very important and constantly growing market, therefore Avon has not given up selling its products in the Asian country but, in order to do so, has revised the lines of cosmetics and opened new sales channels online for which compliance with the country's regulations on animal testing is not required.

“As a global beauty company, it is extremely important for us to be able to continue marketing our products in China.
Our goal is to provide products to meet the needs of our customers without compromising our commitment to animal welfare, our high product safety standards or our adherence to regulatory requirements.
By investing in the development of new solutions for China and in some cases by changing distribution channels, we are able to deliver this fundamental change. Globally, none of Avon's products will be tested on animals, ”said Jonathan Myers, Avon's Chief Operating Officer.

Avon thus becomes the first company in the sector a not to test animals on cosmetics sold in China, where the law requires this type of testing for some products.

The hope now is that other companies like Yves Rocher, L'Oreal, Max Factor, Maybelline and others will take an example and take the same step.

In the cosmetic sector they have already been validated for some time alternative tests to those carried out on animals to ensure the safety of the products, animal testing is therefore not necessary and can finally be abandoned all over the world.

While waiting for countries like China to abolish the obligation of animal testing, companies can walk the road opened by Avon.
