The real tree and its avatar protagonists of a collective action by virtual and real reforestation. It is One Man One Tree Project, a fascinating and technological installation conceived by a duo of French artists, the Electronic Shadow, composed of Naziha Mestaoui e Yacine Aït Kaci, which allows you to plant a tree that grows both in cyberspace and in the Amazon.

Each visitor, as seen in the suggestive video, is invited to enter a dark room, where, by entering the circle drawn on the floor by a light, he can plant a seed, which, shortly thereafter, will give life to one gorgeous tree of light. A simple but significant gesture to interact with nature through art and technology, drawing a link between what we do on an immaterial level with what happens in the material world. The bits that are processed on the screen, in fact, are seeds that, in another part of the world, really start a germination process.

In the room, visitor after visitor, a forest is born projected thanks to 15 kilometers of twisted cables, a sort of mutant being of light with seductive geometric shapes that transport the public into a dreamlike space. But once the tree is planted in this virtual space, a real tree is planted in the Amazon, thanks to the association Apiwtxa, administered by a group of natives of the Amazon rainforest who are responsible for replanting trees in deforested areas. Then the group NatureRights will track the growth progress of the trees planted by each person, the real ones, keeping tabs on the newly formed forest up to one year after interacting with the installation.

“Trees are really physically planted, creating a link between the virtual tree of light and the real tree - Kaci explained. - Making visitors actively participate in this process through technology allows us to demonstrate that actions, even the most intangible ones, can have consequences (positive or negative) “.

Thus was born a emotional bond which begins with this experience. “After the show, the audience knows that everything goes on and their presence continues to act, even if you live in a parallel world. This is the idea of Electronic Shadow. The virtual tree is the avatar of a real tree: let's start from the immaterial to really create life “, concludes Yacine Ait Kaci instead.
