Capture of catfish e catfish fish in 'Arno. In the last few days in Florence there has been talk of bloodless fish, of torpedo operation, of catching the fish necessary to recreate the ideal conditions for the biodiversity of the river. This is how 100 catfish and 20 catfish were caught in a short space of time.

A similar operation had already taken place in 2011, with the capture of 12 catfish and 127 catfish. With regard to the latest catches, studies have been carried out, which led to the calculation that the captured torpedoes are able to feed on other fish for an amount of 1500-3000 chili in the period of their greatest development, which is between April and October.

The project is supported by the Department of the Environment and the Environment Commission of City of Florence and has the specific objective of safeguarding the biodiversity of the river. What does bloodless fishing mean? Simply that the fish are mainly caught with the use of nets, and not hooked, without causing death. They are then transferred to special basins, far from the surface public waters.

If fish belonging to other species, other than catfish or catfish, are caught accidentally, theirs happens immediate release into the river, with no negative effect on their life. Unfortunately, the catfish is considered the main cause of the impoverishment of the Arno's fish heritage.

It has come to create a real one imbalance of biodiversity which, once again, it was caused by man. As Renzo Crescioli explained, Councilor for the Environment of the Province of Florence, it was precisely the man who introduced an uncomfortable guest like the torpedo into the Arno, which is eliminating its natural inhabitants from the river. The initiative for the protection of Arno biodiversity will continue in 2014.
