Giorgio Armani says goodbye to furs. The collections of the well-known high fashion brand will be 100% fur-free starting from the autumn / winter 2016 season. The new commitment of Armani comes following the same step forward made by Hugo Boss last year.

Armani has decided to work closely with Humane society international and with The Fur Free Alliance, a coalition of 40 animal protection organizations working in 28 countries around the world to end the fur trade.

According to Claire Bass, executive director of Humane Society International for the UK, Armani's decision is truly significant for the fashion world. Other designers, such as Prada, Fendi and Michael Kors, who continue to use furs, perhaps after Armani's move will change their mind and follow his example.

Armani renounces furs knowing that technological progress now makes it possible to have alternative valide which allow to protect animals from cruel practices. The designer wants to show that fashion can be committed to protecting animals and the environment.

On this occasion the Humane Society wants to remember le cruel sufferings animals such as rabbits, foxes and raccoons are subjected to for the production of furs. They are forced to live in cages where they cannot behave naturally. They are killed with repeated electric shocks or beaten to death with metal rods.

Other high fashion brands like Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger and Ralph Lauren are starting to shun fur in favor of alternatives cruelty-free, ma there is still a long way to go, therefore, consumers are warned and should be careful because as the Humane Society points out, many items of clothing that contain real fur are mislabeled as synthetics. If in doubt, it is better to choose clothing and accessories without any type of fur.

THEEnpa welcomed the news of Armani's stop to fur coats in a positive way. Now he believes that Parliament and the Government should take note and close the farms:

"The stop of the Armani Group from the use of furs is a strategic decision of great civilization that is destined to be rewarded by the market because it collects a widespread feeling among citizens, even in their role as consumers", declares the national president of Enpa , Carla Rocchi, who continues: “In short, today, in our society, skins and furs are increasingly“ out of fashion ”; Government and Parliament should take note of this and finally decide to end the practice of raising animals for this purpose ".

It is a historic turning point for the fashion world. Now the hope is that other designers will follow the same example and say goodbye to fur and animal cruelty.
