Arendelle, the kingdom of Frozen really exists and is located in Austria. But it risks collapse due to too many tourists!

For all fans of animated films there is good news: Arendelle exists and is located in Austria! The city that inspired the setting of the film, therefore, is not pure fiction but is called Hallstatt.

An Alpine village Unesco heritage since 1997

Hallstatt is a small alpine village which it is located in upper Austria, in the Gmunden district, and takes its name from the lake of the same name. It has no more than 700 inhabitants, it is an uncontaminated place where nature still dominates man, so much so that it has been included in the list since 1997 of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The great success of Frozen, especially after the release of the sequel Frozen II on November 27, 2019, has weighed on Hallstatt negatively, bringing an uncontrolled tourist flow that the town cannot control.

Every day around 10 tourists come to Hallstatt and the mayor, Alexander Scheutz, is trying a possible way to reduce the number of visitors:

“Hallstatt is an important piece of our history and our culture, it is not a museum. We want to reduce the number of tourists by at least a third but we don't know how. "

Hallstatt's photos are popular on social media

Despite the mayor's concerns, Hallstat's photos are popular on social media. After all, in such a characteristic and suggestive place it is difficult not to let yourself go to a photo to immortalize a similar show.
