Aoshima is a small island located in Ehime Prefecture in Southern Japan. The island of Aoshima is better known as 'island of cats' or Cat Island since the number of animals here is much higher than humans, with a ratio of 6 to 1.

We had already talked about it Aoshima as of a paradise for wild cats which were originally introduced to the area to hunt mice. The inhabitants of the island take care of the cats by feeding them.
Recently, however, the food supply for the island has been put on hold due to bad weather conditions. To prevent cats from running out of food, the inhabitants have asked for help on the internet.
"Please send cat food to Aoshima" - wrote one of the island's cat keepers on Twitter - “There are no shops to buy food here on the island”. The inhabitants reach the mainland by boat to do their shopping, but in winter the climate is very windy and the sea transport service is often suspended.
The request for help was really effective as much as on the island in a few days numerous donations arrived of full packs of cat food. The aid has exceeded expectations. The inhabitants of the Japanese Cat Island have achieved much more than they hoped for. The supplies will last until April and now the shipment of food is suspended.
The island's cat keepers could only thank all those who accepted their appeal and who did a good deed to feed the cats of Aoshima via the Web. A beautiful history of solidarity which makes us understand how the Web can be used in a positive way to create networks and mutual aid initiatives.
