    This typical "pathology" of our times would appear just when for some reason we run out of smartphones, there is no field or the battery is completely discharged and therefore it is impossible to receive notifications and check if new sms or chat messages have arrived. Here then is that in some cases the "no mobile phone phobia”, An English term with which modern pathology is classified.

    Experts have been talking about this since 2008 a particularly widespread phenomenon among young people between 18 and 24 years of age. Thanks to studies initiated in that year and conducted by the Pew Research Center, it was noted that 53% of the young people sampled highlighted smartphone addiction, a percentage that rose to 66% in 2012.

    But what exactly happens on a physical level? This question was answered by Professor David GreenField of the Faculty of Psychiatry at the University of Connecticut: "This new form of addiction depends on a malfunction of dopamine, the neurotransmitter that regulates the brain reward circuit, prompting one to take an action to have in exchange for a prize. Considering the messages as a reward, the fact of not knowing when a new notification will arrive forces the brain of the person affected by the disease to check continuously ”.


    In addition to stress and anxiety, this can lead to decreased attention, little interest in daily activities and relationships in the real world.
