After the success of the Neko Cafés, London is preparing to host a novelty on the European scene, even if only for a week: the coffee of owls. Is called Annie the Owl Bar and is located in the beautiful and trendy Soho neighborhood.

Inside, customers can sip cocktails while caressing real owls. The 'pop-up' bar is inspired by owl coffee that have existed for some time in Tokyo (and where else?). And it's proving so popular that tickets have been selling like hot cakes.

The subscription fee is £ 20, which includes two drinks, and will be donated to The Barn Owl Center, an association dedicated to the conservation of nocturnal birds of prey.

The owls that you will be able to find in the bar are Annie ("The Queen"), Winston ("The Wise") and Cinders ("The Cheeky"). A falconer will be present in the room at all times to ensure that no accidents occur, neither for owls nor for people.

The London owl bar will be open, as we said, for only one week, from 19 to 25 March, from 20:30 to 02:00, in line with the nocturnal habits of birds. The exact location of the venue will only be revealed to the lucky winners of the draw from the tickets sold.

But not everyone is fascinated by it. Like Sarah Stafford, who launched a Change.org petition against owl bar, raising concern for the welfare of birds given the significant amount of stress they could be subjected to.

“Many expert falconers, owl lovers and raptor experts have expressed big concerns on this pop-up cocktail bar where a mixture of alcohol, audience and birds of prey appears. Although these birds are bred in captivity and are used to being in contact with humans, placing them in this environment could be dangerous. It is one thing to raise awareness of the help that can be provided to make owls thrive in nature, it is quite another to put them in a cocktail bar and let people touch them ”, explains the appeal.

And many seem to agree: at the time of writing, over 9 thousand users have signed the petition asking the authorities to ban the opening of the coffee of owls. So the words of the author of Harry Potter, JK Rowling, who, aware of having contributed to the "owl mania", long ago did a strong appeal to fans not to copy their hero by choosing i owls as pets.

“If someone has been influenced by my books and thinks an owl would be happy locked in a small cage and kept in a house, I would like to take this opportunity to say with all my might: you are wrong. The owls in the Harry Potter books were never intended to represent the true behavior of real owls. If you are looking for a concrete expression of your "owl mania", rather sponsor an owl in a bird sanctuary, where they can be visited knowing that they have ensured a happy and healthy life ".

    And what do you think?
