Mervan Altınorak, Turkish artist who has decided to make recycling an art by recycling 30 tons of waste.
Thirty tons of recycled gears and 50 animal sculptures, one of which weighs 400 kilograms: these are the works of Mervan Altınorak, a Turkish artist who has decided to make recycling an art.
In Altinorak's hands, waste becomes precious objects that make up majestic structures: mermaids and horses, flamingos and fish are all sculpted from fragments of metal and plastic. His animals perfectly embody the dichotomy between nature and technique, where what was first technology and then waste becomes a means to evoke natural forms.
These sculptures remind the human being that, despite the progress of the technique, his roots sink into something more ancestral.

The screws, tubes and gears of these works are clearly visible on the outside, but, despite this, the final shape is decidedly fluid and realistic. To create the mermaid sculpture, the artist used 10 waste materials collected from the sea and taken from trucks, tractors and motorcycles. The work was exhibited on a beach in Turkey to raise awareness among users on the issues of reuse and recycling.
Altinorak's work conveys a message that goes beyond what is seen: despite appearances, waste materials are not just a pile of garbage.
The artist stressed that he was happy to be able to carry out his work using waste, spreading messages in defense of the environment.
