    For this reason, the Region has opened the doors of hospitals to animals, with the resolution of the Executive that approves the Regulation implementing the provisions referred to in Title VIII, Chapter II, of Regional Law 33/2009, containing rules relating to the protection of pets. and prevention of stray dogs.

    “Absolute novelty is the access for dogs, cats and rabbits to hospitals and retirement homes, according to the safety conditions established by the health or socio-sanitary structures, respecting the minimum requirements set out in the regulation: animals must be accompanied by adults, dogs must be muzzled and led on a leash; cats and rabbits, on the other hand, must be housed in the appropriate carrier, at least until the time of the visit to the patient or guest " he said the Lombardy Welfare Councilor Giulio Gallera.

    But not only. The Region has introduced other news for the protection of animals including the obligation of identification and registration in the registry pets for all dogs, for commercial cats and for cats from feline colonies.

    In addition, the regulation also specifies which are the Duties of those who deal with dogs, cats and pets:

    "Among obligations of owners to provide the animal with adequate shelter, food and water in sufficient quantities, adequate motor activity, promote social contacts typical of the species and ensure the necessary care. The animals in training cannot be subjected to activities harmful to their health or be forced to exceed their natural abilities or strengths. Furthermore, it is forbidden to keep dogs in a chain or apply any other similar restraint tool to them, except for health reasons certified by a veterinarian or for temporary safety reasons ”continues the commissioner.
