Inserted in soups and cooking foods, in fact, and with a little bit of lemon juice, would be able to provide 75% of the daily iron requirement.

The Canadian scientist came up with this idea Christopher charles which was inspired by previous research according to which cooking in iron pots increases the amount of iron in food.

Charles in fact started, six years ago, from the observation of the Cambodian population, which does not exactly wallow in riches. In the villages of the province of Kadal he met her small and weak children, with slow mental development, and women suffering from chronic fatigue and headache, and with serious hemorrhages after a birth. From here to understand that all this was due to one iron deficient feeding the step it was short: just in Cambodia 50% of the population is affected by anemia, a pathology that affects two and a half billion of people around the world.

How then, especially among these people, to increase the dose of iron in the daily diet? Simple, a small object that frees the iron at the right concentration and that maybe it also has the shape of the lucky symbol of Cambodian culture: Lucky Iron Fish! A little fish that would provide all the nutrients needed by many women and children.

How does it work? "Just boil it in water or soup for at least ten minutes and then remove it" explains Charles. Then “add a little lemon juice, which is very important to favor the assimilation of iron“. The taste of the food will not change, while the fish will continue to release iron for several years.

For now Lucky Iron Fish it costs 20 dollars and about 2.500 families in Cambodia are using it with already results: according to what the scientist says after only 9 months of use, the incidence of anemia would have dropped by 50%. Finally, Christopher's company distributed almost 9 pieces free of charge to hospitals and non-governmental organizations in the country.
