Amazon.com has contributed to the trade in whale meat and food products containing derivatives from endangered fish species making them available to shoppers among the groceries for sale through the Japanese section of its website E-commerce. Animalists from all over the world have decided to organize a campaign to stop the sales of illegal fish products, aimed primarily at Amazon administrators.

The investigation into the case was carried out by the EIA (Environmental Investigation Agency), which ascertained the sale by Amazon of 147 products containing meat from whales, dolphins and other cetaceans, including porpoises, most of which are included in the lists of endangered species. No one would have probably ever thought of finding it on the pages of one of the most used online stores canned whale meat or dried, without neglecting the whale stew.

The Amazon director was accused of helping to sell the illegal products. Whaling was decreed outlawed since 1986 in countries such as Russia, Japan, Norway, Korea and Iceland, but the activity of poachers has unfortunately continued over the years, although the demand and consumption of whale meat, justified as part of some local traditions have fortunately fallen over time. Finally, it seems that the raw materials of the products accused were of Icelandic origin.

The EIA has shown its opposition to what happened by explicitly asking Amazon to eliminate products deemed illegal from its virtual shelves and from its warehouse and to follow more closely. consistency the rules contained in its own regulation. The president of the detective agency, Allan Thorton, in fact stated that Amazon has endorsed the trade in whale meat and other cetaceans despite this being contrary to the guidelines relating to sales made through the same online store. EIA therefore asks the founder and president of Amazon, Jeff Bezos, to put an end to such hypocrisy.

To make the appeal even more effective, the detective agency has created a video message to raise awareness of the problem, focused on the violence and cruelty of a hunting practice that in our hyper-civilized era should have ended for some time now and that is pushing towards extinction several fish species already at risk, of which there is no need to feed and whose killing is unfortunately linked not only to the activity of poachers, but also to the more than permitted tuna fishing, as recently denounced by Greenpeace.

In order to oppose and make known the actions of Amazon, the EIA requires animal rights activists and any person sensitive to the issue to join an awareness campaign to be carried out mainly through Social Networks, sharing the aforementioned video and the web page specifically dedicated to the topic, or by sending a protest email addressed directly to Amazon managers.
