US experts would have identified the possible main cause of the disease of Alzheimer. Duke University researchers have discovered that blocking a particular cellular process could reduce the number of amyloid plaques that alter the functioning of neurons and lead to the onset of Alzheimer's symptoms.

The US discovery could lead to new strategies for finding a cure for Alzheimer's disease. Experts think the onset of Alzheimer's could be due to one arginine deficiency, an amino acid that is considered very important for the brain.

During the pathological processes of the disease there would be an excessive consumption of arginine by immune cells. So then, precisely by preventing the excessive consumption of arginine, a cure could be reached.

This is the opinion of the author of the research, Carol Colton, expert of the Duke University School of Medicine by Duhram. The study in question was published in the Journal of Neuroscience with the title of "Arginine deprivation and immune suppression in a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease".

While studying Alzheimer's disease, the researchers noted that theaccumulation of abnormal plaques in the brain and memory loss are accompanied by a deficiency of the amino acid arginine. This substance would be eliminated due to the abnormal action of immune cells present in the brain, called microglia.

Un drug now under study for tumors could you solve the problem? Experts have focused their attention on the investigational drug DFMO, initially considered only for the treatment of tumors. This drug could help reduce both the plaque buildup and the memory loss symptoms typical of Alzheimer's disease.

At the moment it is only one preliminary study that needs to be deepened, but starting from recent discoveries, researchers could identify new ways to deal with the disease, for an early diagnosis and for the proposal of a cure.
