    Cosmetics and moisturizers: beware of preservatives. The preservatives most commonly used by the cosmetic industry are facing an increase in cases of allergy. Moisturizers and other similar beauty products should be beneficial for the skin. Instead they cause an increasing number of cases of irritation, redness and dermatitis.



    This is due to their content of allergens which are very often hidden among the ingredients used as preservatives, as well as among the substances that make up synthetic perfumes. If using moisturizers or other cosmetic products commonly on sale you notice the appearance of skin redness, check the ingredients list.

    Among them may be present preservatives such as methylisothiazolinone and methylchloroisothiazolinone. Their use is also frequent in the formulation of shampoo, liquid soap, shower gel, shower gel, hair conditioner and various types of detergents and body creams.

    These preservatives are used in conventional cosmetics to prevent the development of bacteria. Normally, there are no certified organic and allergen-free skin care and cleansing products, as the latter use more delicate preservatives. Suffice it to say that the ingredients under indictment may be part of the formulation of paints, as well as gods detergents for house cleaning, including laundry or dish detergents.

    Symptoms of allergy to cosmetic preservatives are represented by contact dermatitis, with the appearance of redness, itching and blistering. The problem of their presence in cosmetic communes was raised by some British dermatologists during the 93rd Congress of the British Association of Dermatologists, held in Liverpool.

    The experts they requested to the European Commission di review the limits of use of these preservatives. According to dermatologists, the widespread use of cosmetics containing the alleged preservatives is the cause of a increase of at least 10% contact allergies affecting the skin over the past few years. From a survey carried out at the Leeds Centre for Dermatology, it was found that both compounds are responsible for an increase in contact allergies equal to 6,2%. Further research, conducted at the St. Thomas Hospital of London, highlighted a conspicuous increase in cases of contact allergy caused by methylisothiazolinone. L'alternative? Natural and do-it-yourself cosmetics, free from irritating and allergenic substances.
