At the gates of Thanksgiving and with Christmas approaching, to protest against animal abuse and help slow the climate crisis, the couple of actors and activists Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara made a laudable appeal asking people to adopt a turkey, instead of including it as part of the dinner menu during the holidays.
Turkeys are emotional, intelligent and social animals. It is chilling that more than 68 million turkeys are brutally slaughtered and eaten during the holiday months alone, ”the couple said.
Mara and Phoenix visited the Acton Farm Sanctuary in California and spent time with rescued turkeys living freely at this farm animal sanctuary. Now, they hope that others will accept their invitation to join the "Adopt a Turkey" initiative.
