Will rise to Amsterdam la first house entirely made with a 3D printer. The architects of Dus Architects have already begun construction of the 3D Print Canal House, using a large-scale version of a 3D printer, and natural materials.

The location is suggestive. The ecological house, made up of various blocks, will in fact rise near one of the canals of the Dutch city and will have 13 rooms. No concrete but a special recyclable bioplastic, made with 75% vegetable oil and reinforced with microfibers.

The 3D project made using the KamerMaker printer was announced earlier this year as a concept and as an art project, but the architects' work really took shape. After about three weeks, reports the Guardian, a three-meter-high segment has already been built.

The interior and facade are printed together, other spaces are left for wiring and pipes for now. The walls will subsequently be filled with concrete for insulation and reinforcement. The entire house printing and assembly process will take three years.

La 3D Print Canal House it was conceived in this way with the aim of improving current architectural techniques on several levels. The designers of the Dus studio are confident that by printing series of blocks instead of building with conventional materials, they will be able to eliminate waste and reduce transport costs since the same plastic used for construction can be made from recycled materials. Being built in blocks, the house can also be reassembled by modifying the rooms.

The site is open to tourists. Among the visitors, US President Barack Obama recently was particularly impressed.

For some years now Behrokh Khoshnevis of the University of Southern California has also been working on this front, engaged in the so-called Contour Crafting, a fast and efficient printing process, capable of creating large-scale works in a short time, while at the same time reducing energy requirements and the production of polluting emissions.
