Mask irritation and pimples: causes

The appearance of skin irritations related to the mask appear because this medical device in contact with the skin and with breathing creates a humid environment that can favor the proliferation of bacteria; in addition, the fabric can irritate the epidermis due to continuous contact and friction.

But that's not all, as even heat can make the skin exude, resulting in a greater production of sweat and sebum which, accumulating, clogs the pores, thus favoring the appearance of pimples and blackheads.

These blemishes tend to appear mainly in the area around the nose, chin and cheeks.

Acne and irritation from masks: tips and tricks to prevent problems with your skin

If you have noticed a deterioration in the health of your skin, especially in the latter period, the cause is probably to be found in the frequent use of the mask.

How to protect the epidermis? How to prevent mascne? Here are our tips.

Cleanse and moisturize your face every day

Remember to wash your face every day and especially after wearing the mask; the important thing, however, is to choose the right product that is not too aggressive and preferably without fragrance.

For an anti-mascne beauty routine, all oil-based products should also be avoided, because they fatten the skin, but also the classic cleansing milk since its greasy component can clog the pores.

Our advice is to opt for delicate detergents without surfactants; in case of very sensitive skin we advise you to choose 100% natural Aleppo soap.

After cleansing the skin, proceed with the moisturizer; this, according to certified dermatologist Carrie L. Kovarik, must have the following ingredients:

  • Ceramides
  • Hyaluronic acid
  • Dimethicone (which can also create a barrier that helps reduce irritated skin).

In case of oily skin, choose a cream with a gel texture, for normal or combination skin a face lotion is better, and for dry skin a very nourishing cream.

Avoid make-up if you wear a mask

To prevent pimples and blemishes, it is good practice to avoid make-up, especially if you are forced to wear the mask for several hours.

Then, after cleansing the skin, simply apply the face cream, avoiding using the foundation which can clog the pores and favor the appearance of pimples and blackheads.

If you don't want to give up make-up, the advice is to simply apply a veil of eye corrector and mascara.

Always wear a clean mask

It is important to always wear a clean mask, whether disposable or made of cotton.

Therefore, it is a good habit to change it frequently, especially if it is disposable; in the case of those in cotton it is good to wash them often immediately after wearing them.

Another tip is to take a break from the mask for at least 15 minutes every 4 hours, so that the skin can breathe.

Use specific products for skin irritations

To treat and alleviate mask irritation, specific products must be used, such as:

  • Hypericum, with antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties
  • Aloe vera gel with a refreshing and soothing action
  • Tea tree oil, perfect antimicrobial to counteract the mascne
  • Calendula that helps healing.
