Numerous researchers are increasingly interested in the topic ofacid-base balance. Our body constantly takes care of balancing its level of acidity to keep it compatible with the performance of the main metabolic functions.

I processes acid-base balance help to maintain the pH of our blood on inclusive values between 7.35 and 7.45. This is a slightly basic (or alkaline) pH.

Second Rudolf Vichrow diseases develop when an environment is created in our organism whose acidity is favorable for the proliferation of germs. Both excessive acidity and higher than normal alkalinity can cause problems. Our body is a perfect machine that needs balance to function well.

Sometimes our body is overloaded with a 'excessive acidity which among the consequences could lead to the appearance of degenerative diseases. Healthy cells risk degenerating while germs find a suitable environment to proliferate, according to the acid-base theory.

I pH values higher than 7 they are called alkaline, or basic, while values below 7 are acidic, with 0 corresponding to maximum acidity. The pH of the gastric juices present in our stomach, for example, is acidic in order to promote digestive functions. It is a very low pH that can vary between 1 and 2. Each area of our body has its own natural pH. The theory of acid-base balance recommends above all to maintain a correct and natural pH of the blood, which is therefore slightly alkaline.

Thanks to the slightly alkaline pH, the body is able to initiate its own self-healing processes. According to this theory, our body in an altered pH state is unable to absorb the nutrients it needs.

According to the chemist Linus Pauling, winner of two Nobel Prizes, maintaining a slightly alkaline pH is the secret to guaranteeing the health of our body. In his opinion, the pH of our body should be understood between 7.1 and 7.4, therefore it should be slightly alkaline. An imbalance of pH versus acidity could favor the proliferation of cancer cells.

Second Robert O. Young and Shelley Redford Young, the pH imbalance could be caused by several factors, including smoking and pollution, stressful and emotionally heavy situations, consumption of acidic foods, with particular reference to coffee, alcohol, meat, fish, eggs and dairy products.

It is not about avoiding acidifying foods altogether, but about being aware of what are acidifying foods and alkalizing foods in order to regulate one's diet to stay healthy.

Robert O. Young, author of "The miracle of alkaline pH" argues that nutrition can help our body maintain a slightly alkaline pH and that alkaline and / or ionized water is an effective drink for detoxifying and revitalizing our bodies.

In his opinion a state of strong acidity can be caused by an unbalanced diet (malnutrition), environmental pollution, stress and lack of exercise, poisoning the body with drugs and unwanted substances found in food.

Also according to Young, a pH that is too acidic can lead to the onset of hypertension, arthritis, gotta, Osteoporosis, atherosclerosis and chronic fatigue syndrome.

Young's alkalizing diet should be based above all on vegetables, grains and sprouted legumes, seeds and nuts, especially almonds as sources of calcium, essential fatty acids present in linseed oil and olive oil (omega 3 and omega 6), fruit not too sweet.

Not everyone agrees on the usefulness of one alkalizing diet. As often happens, in the field of nutrition there are conflicting opinions among the experts themselves. Therefore, everyone will choose the path that makes them feel better and that they consider most suitable for their health.
