    The marine protected area of ​​Punta Campanella is looking for volunteers to monitor the hatching of Caretta caretta turtles' nests for the duration of the summer. The interventions will take place in the Campania Region on a series of beaches to be patrolled

    There are many opportunities for those who want to spend a summer 2022 different from the usual, dedicating themselves to the protection of nature and the protection of its wonderful living species. And there are numerous bodies and protected areas that are looking for volunteers for the summer season.




    One of these is the protected marine area of ​​Punta Campanella which is looking for enthusiasts of the environment who want to patrol the beaches of Campania on the Domito coast, in Cilento and in other places for monitor the nesting of Caretta caretta sea turtles and to sensitize and inform swimmers about their presence.

    Followed by specialized personnel of various associations, the volunteers will go to identify the nests of the sea turtles at the first light of dawn and will guard them until they hatch. The duration of day and night shifts is a maximum of 6 hours.

    The monitoring work, coordinated by the A. Dohrn Zoological Station, will be divided into two periods:

    • search for traces from 6 June to 7 August
    • supervision of the nests from 1st August to 3rd September

    For volunteers, the Amp Punta Campanella provides beds in shared rooms in the areas of Ascea, Santa Maria di Castellabbate and the Domitian coast for a minimum of 1 week. Those who are on holiday nearby and join the project can apply for it even for fewer days.

    In 2021, the project monitored 57 nests and the birth of around 3000 Caretta caretta baby turtles.
