Do you love books? Are you willing to change your life and move to the Maldives? Here is the job for you. Philip Blackwell, founder of Ultimate Library and scion of a family of booksellers, he is recruiting a person to work in a shop on the beautiful islands located in the Indian Ocean.

The bookseller will work within a luxurious eco-resort known as Soneva Fushi, located within the Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve, surrounded by dense canopy trees on "snow-soft sandy beaches".

The successful candidate will have to work for at least three months, during which time he will not only deal with selling books but will have to keep "a fun and lively blog about the grueling life of a bookseller on a desert island".

The requirements aren't impossible: having a passion for books, being gifted with the ability to engage guests of all ages, being able to entertain children with storytelling, and organize creative writing classes for resort guests

"We want someone in the field who is creative and stimulating and who can share the pleasure of reading with many people, which is what tourists love to do on vacation", he said Blackwell.

The resort villas are priced from around $ 2000 to $ 26.000 per night. Not really affordable for all budgets but according to the job offer, the bookseller will have room and board in this heavenly place.

"The pay is paltry, but the benefits are unmatched," said Blackwell. “The role will evolve and the candidate will have to make the most of this unique opportunity. It is a dream job for many people. If I was 25, I would ”are Blackwell's words.

The shop will also publish a series of books that will feature the local environment, including colorful marine life.

The bookshop is a new experiment by Blackwell, who in 2006 abandoned the management of the British chain of shops that bears his name after the family sold the company. The resort store is an extension of his business with the Ultimate Library, which he created quite by accident while traveling the world. Oggu has more than 250 projects around the world, including over 30 luxury hotels and resorts.

For each hotel library built, the company also helps donate a library to a local institution. A service dedicated to wealthy tourists but with a beneficial implication since it makes books available to the inhabitants.

But candidates should be aware that this is not a completely risk-free job. Journalists and opposition personalities live in a climate of oppression under the authoritarian president Abdulla Yameen. Last year, a blogger who satirised the political and religious establishment was stabbed to death in the capital, Male.

If your dream remains to work in the most remote bookshop in the world, come forward and send your application to pb@ultimatelibrary.co.uk.
