A whole car-free week. It is the great challenge proposed by the mayor of Paris to citizens in correspondence with the European Week for Sustainable Mobility. Will Parisians be able to give up the car for a week?

Who decides to take part in the challenge of the week without a car, from the 19 to the 25 September 2016 he will be invited to leave the car in the garage and to make free use of public and sustainable mobility, from bike sharing to buses to subways. Of course, those who want to can choose to move on foot or simply with their own bike.

Who knows if most Parisians will manage to join the challenge of setting aside the car for a week, but surely Paris will have at least one car-free day, set for the next. September 25th.

In this case, it is an official initiative in which the use of the car will be prohibited in favor of the reduction of pollution and of a greener and liveable city, more peaceful and where the air can become more breathable.

In Paris last year the car-free day was a great success and therefore the city decided to propose it again and to renew the invitation for 2016. The idea is once again to raise awareness among citizens to change their behavior in comparisons of the use of the car. The restrictions will affect 650 km of car-free roads within Paris that at least for a day they will become completely pedestrian.

The spirit of the initiative is intended to be festive and participatory. We will talk about pollution and the problems caused by excessive traffic with free events but there will also be moments dedicated to children and families in order to favor social aggregation.

The collective Paris Without a Car will propose workshops for children and for all there will be a large parade without motor vehicles. The day will end with a picnic in the center of Paris. Buses, bikes and subways will be the best ways to get around the city on 25 September. The traffic ban it will apply to all types of cars, also for electric cars.

So will we be able to see Paris without a car in circulation at least for a day or maybe even for a week?
