La turmeric helps to decrease ea prevent diabetes of type 2. To reveal theyet another beneficial property of this precious oriental spice at the base of curry, with an intense ocher color, is a Thai research from the University of Srinakharinwirot, also published in the journal Diabetes Care.
According to what emerged from the study, turmeric can prevent, or at least delay, the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus in people at higher risk.
The doctors came to these conclusions after testing two groups of adult volunteers, for a total of 240 people.
The first group took a dose of 250 milligrams of turmeric per day, while the second group only believed they were taking the same dose of turmeric, thus verifying the possible placebo effect.
Nine months after the experiment, the volunteers who consumed the spice did not register any kind of problem and the reason would lie in the anti-inflammatory properties of curcuminoids, which act on beta-cells; they basically release insulin, the hormone that regulates blood sugar levels.
According to scientists, turmeric is particularly effective in those who have not yet developed diabetes and therefore has the ability to effectively prevent this pathology, or at least delay it for a few years.
"A turmeric extract - commented the research coordinator, Somlak Chuengsamarn - could be used as a therapy in the prediabetic population ".
