While it is not out of the ordinary to encounter a black leopard in the Tadoba reserve, people generally only manage to spot it for brief moments: several wildlife photographers lurk for hours hoping to spot one of these specimens, often in vain.

In this case, the specimen was admired for a really long time, 40 minutes, allowing the boy to take wonderful photos.

“I blanched when I saw it. I had never seen anything so beautiful, I was completely amazed; I came to my senses after 10 minutes and started taking pictures, ”said Abhishek

The black leopard Abhishek spotted should be around four years old. The particular color of the coat is given by a genetic mutation that causes the excess production of melanin which, in turn, causes a dark pigmentation of the skin and coat. The phenomenon, known as melanism, is quite common in jaguars (Panthera onca) and leopards (Panthera pardus).

The rare black panther looks like the shadow of the leopard, the incredible shot by photographer Mithun H.

“I knew about the existence of black leopards, but I was very lucky to have seen them on my first safari,” said Abhishek.
