Niccolò Fabi finances a playground to finally let the children of the Tamburi district, in Taranto, enjoy the outdoors

The playground that Niccolò Fabi has decided to finance for the children of Taranto will be dedicated to his daughter Olivia, who died at the age of 2 of fulminant meningitis. There, in the Tamburi district, the district next to the Ilva factory, a leisure space for the little Apulians will soon arise.

The project is part of the "A rainbow for Drums" initiative based on the idea of Parole di Lulù, the association of which Fabi's partner Shirin Amini is president, and was born in memory of little Olivia in order to give children a safe space where to play.

The idea of a park in the neighborhood near the Ilva factory matured in Niccolò in recent years, when he performed on the stage of the May Day concert and, despite the funds being allocated two years ago, amid bureaucratic complications and delays, the project finally sees the light today.

But how will you manage a children's park in the neighborhood, like that of Tamburi, where, due to the pollution of Ilva, the Municipality had to issue trade union ordinances that prohibited the use of outdoor green spaces because feared the contamination of the land?

“The park - explains the designer, the architect Massimo Prontera - will rise next to the Gabelli school, on land already reclaimed from pollutants and in the heart of the district, so that it is a place socially controlled by the inhabitants themselves. There will be a washing and cleaning system for the games, to avoid the deposition of dust ".

“Joy, like pain, must be preserved, must be transformed”, our Niccolò sings in some songs. And he, like the children who live in these places, has known a lot of pain. Giving hope back to the little ones who already have to become adults, amidst stories of disease, deaths and bureaucracy, is a noble gesture to transform that pain into something concrete.
