Maratus is a relatively large family of jumping spiders that inhabit several regions in Australia and China. The newly discovered species was first identified near Mount McIntyre (southern Australia) by Sheryl Holliday, activist of Nature Glenelg Trust, which released the first photographic images of the animal. The new animal has been renamed Maratus Nemo: the name derives from the Disney film “Finding Nemo”, because the bright colors of the males of this species are reminiscent of the little clownfish protagonist of the cartoon - bright orange with white stripes. Nemo brings the total number of species belonging to this family to 92 specimens.
