Classic wines murals are they outdated? There street art becomes 3D thanks to the works of the French artist Patrick Commency and his team of collaborators. Together they created the project Fresco and transform the monotony of some city streets into a real explosion of shapes and colors.

They paint the exterior walls of homes with windows, balconies, and tiles very similar to their real-life versions. Often these scenes are not limited to the architectural elements and are therefore enriched with characters not only of fantasy, but also that recall the life of the city, with famous and influential personalities.

The artists use the techniques of trompe l'oeil, a pictorial genre that deceives the eye by creating in the observer the illusion of looking at real and three-dimensional objects, while they are simple paintings executed on a two-dimensional surface.

The new paintings of the street art in 3D they flourish on the buildings of Montpellier, which comes alive with three-dimensional characters linked to the city, such as the chemist Antoine Jerome Balard. One of the facades was created by the artist inspired by the characters of Gabriel Chevallier's novel “Clochemerle” (1934).

Here is a series of characters inspired by the context of those times, between burlesque situations and good-natured drunkards. These unusual murals are also found in other cities of France, in addition to Montpellier, for example in the town of Le Puy-en-Velay. Each painting is made to measure based on the unique position in which it will be made.
