We have taken the liberty of adding two very special children to the list, Severn Suzuki from Canada and Felix Finkbeiner from Germany.

Caitlyn Larsen

Caitlyn is a 10-year-old girl from Orogrande, New Mexico. One day, looking out the window of her bedroom, she noticed that on the side of one mountain a strange hole was opening nearby. At just 11 years old, Birke has very clear ideas on the subject of supply: he is in fact a convinced champion of biological and became the protagonist of meetings in the schools American, to tell their own experience and raise awareness among peers, inviting them to reflect on nutritional value of what they eat, on GM and on the use of pesticides and other harmful substances in crops.

In front of so much environmental devastation, the eleven-year-old Olivia has decided to get busy herself, collaborating with the National Audubon Society per sell the drawings of the specimens of birds most affected by the black tide. The sale paid off over 200.000 dollars, which have been donated to actions to restore the ecosystems of the Gulf. On the occasion of the first anniversary of the accident, Olivia has also published a book, so that what happened is not forgotten but represents a warning for the future.



Cole Rasenberger

At 8, Cole was actively engaged for save the forests of its region, in North Carolina, involving numerous peers from their school. His initiative was extremely simple: the children sent some postcards signed chains of fast food to ask them to switch to the packaging recycled and sustainable. The mobilization has achieved an important goal, obtaining responses and commitments from a giant in the sector, McDonald's. Subsequently, Cole's efforts focused on a second chain, the KFC: the company received directly from the hands of the child 6.000 postcards, thanks to the involvement of pupils from other elementary schools in the area, but at the moment it has not offered positive feedback. The important thing, however, is not to give up!

Mason Perez

At 9 years old Mason made a finding of a disarming simplicity: he realized that the jet ofwater that flowed from the faucets in the school bathroom, baseball field, shops, and homes of his hometown unnecessarily strong. For this, he wrote to the mayor asking him to lower the water pressure in the pipes, obtaining a water saving calculated between 6% and 25%.

At 14 Ashton decided it was time to cut the CO emissions2 of your family: with this aim, he took his grandparents' old car, parked in the garage to collect dust, and equipped it with nine battery from golf cart. Now the old car can travel at a top speed of just over 70km / h - not much, but enough to get around town - without emitting carbon dioxide.


Severn Suzuki

In 1992, at the age of 12, Severn started a fundraiser with the Environmental Children’s Organization (ECO), a group of ecological children she founded 3 years earlier, in order to take part in the Summit of the Earth of the United Nations, the Rio de Janeiro. Here, in just six minutes and in simple, straightforward, and effective words, Severn expressed the a little girl's point of view on major ecological problems, silencing (momentarily ...) the powerful of the world. Today, at the age of 30, Severn continues his commitment to protecting the environment by partnering with The Skyfish Project.

 

Felix Finkbeiner

At 9, after a lesson from his teacher on photosynthesis chlorophyll, Felix decided to plant a small tree on the windowsill of his class, and then exclaim, with that genuine enthusiasm typical of the little ones, "I will plant a million trees in Germany". Today Felix is ​​13 years old and, under the motto Stop talking! Start planting !, exceeded its goal: in fact planted the millionth tree on May 4, 2011. The ceremony was attended by political representatives and Ministers of the Environment from 45 nations.
