    According to the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, people's eating habits and other lifestyle factors play a very important role in increasing or reduce the risk of heart disease.

    But heart disease, in the opinion of experts, can be the subject of prevention and they can meet one regression thanks to a diet based on plant-based, whole and healthy foods.

    Here then is the start of the initiative Eat RED for American Heart Month. It is proposed in February, which in the United States is the "Month of the Heart". For the month dedicated to heart disease prevention, the medical committee has come up with one list of red foods that are good for the heart.

    Experts on this occasion point out that while the Red meat can increase the risk of heart and cardiovascular disease, exist vegetable foods of red color that can really help us keep our heart healthy.

    In particular they have identified i 7 main red foods that are good for the heart.

    1) Sour cherries - Vitamin A

    Sour cherries, let's take advantage of them when they are in season. Sour cherries are beneficial for the heart thanks to their high content of Vitamin A. One cup (1 American cup contains 240 ml of water) of black cherries provides 39% of our daily requirement of vitamin A.



    2) Tomatoes - Lycopene

    Tomatoes contain a high amount of lycopene, a powerful antioxidant considered useful by doctors and science to protect the heart and circulatory system and to prevent heart and cardiovascular diseases.

    3) Red Lentils - Proteins

    Red lentils are referred to by experts as a rich source of protein. A cup (American cup) of red lentils contains 18 grams of protein. Experts propose red lentils, and legumes in general, as a valid source of proteins of vegetable origin in place of meat.

    4) Red Beets - Betaine

    Red beans are a source of protein, like red lentils, but they are also an important source of fibers. Doctors indicate that one cup of red kidney beans provides 44% of the recommended daily intake for fiber.


    7) Red potatoes - Potassium and Vitamin B6

    Red potatoes are considered to be beneficial for the heart as they are a good source of potassium and Vitamin B6. Just one big red potato contains 30% and 46% of the recommended daily intake of vitamin B6 and potassium, respectively.
