How to ban the plastic from our tables? Here are some tips to reduce its use in the kitchen given its poor hygiene and its non-biodegradability.

1- Reduce the use of pre-packaged foods and prefer fresh ones: ready-to-eat foods are the foods with the greatest packaging. Buying them less frequently is certainly good for the environment and our health.

2- Reduce the use of plastic utensils: why not use metal or wooden cutlery instead of plastic knives, spoons and spatulas? Among other things, it is not optimal to use plastic material for cooking at high temperatures. For correct plastic recycling, pay attention to the type of plastic in the tool or container. Alternatively, it is better to choose bioplastic material, or, if it is really not possible to recycle the plastic cutlery, reuse it for other jobs: DIY, painting or gardening.

3- What about the plastic bags? Definitely biodegradable. Otherwise store the food in canvas bags or in paper bags: food certainly gains in hygiene and freshness.

4- Pay attention to Pans in Teflon, preferably with the interior in stainless steel, ceramic or cast iron. Avoid those with plasticized coatings. For creative recycling, old pans can become pieces of art: to hang on the kitchen walls with the addition of flowers, photos or fabric clippings.

5- What's better than storing food in glass containers? Another challenge, given the scarce response in the commercial field, consists in the search not only for glass containers but for those with glass or metal lids.

So what are you waiting for? And good luck for a greener kitchen!
