An ingenious idea from the point of view of the exploitation ofSolar thermal energy is represented by the realization of transparent tiles for the production of hot water. The transparent photovoltaic tiles involve the use of materials such as glass or Plexiglas for their construction. They allow the home to enjoy natural sunlight in the attic or in any room below. They have resistance characteristics very similar to those of traditional tiles. They can allow a passage of natural sunlight equal to 80-90% and are structured in such a way that thanks to their presence it is possible to produce hot water for your home using the energy of the sun. Solutions of this type are proposed for example by Dow Power House or the Techo Solar project.
Purifying tiles
The purifying tiles represent a further step forward in the field of solar tiles, as they allow, through the principle of photo-catalytic, air purification from smog simply thanks to solar energy. The photo-catalytic system has already been used, for example, to create a smog-eating asphalt capable of absorbing part of the polluting emissions from means of transport. The purifying tiles arrived on the market after several patents useful for the renovation of sloping roofs and could prove useful for improving the air quality of our cities.
Shingles that change color
The innovative tiles called Thermeleon have the ability to change color depending on the outside temperature, after being placed on the roof of a building. The tiles will become white when temperatures are higher and it will therefore be necessary to cool the roof, while they will become black when temperatures drop, in order to retain the heat present more.
The black tiles in summer help to increase the internal temperature of the buildings, with a consequent greater use of cooling systems. With Thermeleon shingles the problem could be solved. The prototype of the color-changing chameleon shingles was made by MIT students.
