Le seaweed, we already know, they have extraordinary properties, not least that of being able to produce energy using the pollutants present in the atmosphere. And here are the 5 lamps and bulbs that will be able to illuminate our lives, our homes and our streets without producing harmful emissions.

The first is the one devised by the French biochemist Pierre Calleja. Un Street lamp and exploiting the action of micro-algae, it is potentially able to absorb one ton of carbon every year from the air, more or less as much as 150/200 trees.

The second is Thief Lamp, a special lamp that literally steals the energy from the photosynthesis of algae. In fact, it exploits one of the strangest forms of alternative energy, the electric current generated by photosynthesis. The technique behind Latro Lamp was born three years ago in the laboratories of Stanford University but was made concrete by the designer Mike Thompson who actually created the prototype of the lamp.

And after the two lamps comes the first bulb. The name speaks for itself: it is AlgaeBulb, designed by Gyula Bodonyi exploiting the power of green algae with a small LED activated by an equally small air pump and made of hydrophobic material, able to create a "home" where you can generate light. The bulb, which has the shape of a tear, is equipped with a system that sucks carbon dioxide and water through the pump. Once the air passes through the bulb, the algae "bloom" producing oxygen which in turn powers the small LED inside. When the AlgaeBulb is not illuminated it takes on a dark green color, precisely due to the colony of micro-algae guests inside.

And let's move on to chandeliers. The fourth solution proposed is a collection of lamps developed for Almerich. Created by Mexican designer Christian Vivanco, Algae Lamp was inspired by the memories of her summers spent in the Mexican Caribbean and above all by the variety and intensity of the colors generated by seaweed. Available in a wide range of colors, the Algae Lamp can make rooms more welcoming and modern, all in a natural way.

Finally, Thompson's latest design after the Lator Lamp is the Trap Light, which uses photoluminescent pigments to capture light. In collaboration with Gionata Gatto, the designer has worked on a particular glass blowing technique that allows these pigments to be part of the lamp body.

Too bad they are all prototypes.
